Xavier is a white polypedal cag. He's best known for being taur-like, with multiple limbs. He also has four eyes and a fluffy tail.
Personality
Xavier is a lighthearted and simple person, often silly in attitude. He's easy to get along with, and is comfortable in most places, with a much higher bar for what's threatening. He doesn't judge others nor mind being judged himself, often being whimsical. He finds using his body as if it were a material or object to be hilarious and prideful, alongside being inconvenient just for the sakes of it. While capable of complex thought and actually rather smart, he doesn't display it upfront and often doesn't learn from his mistakes.
Xavier is Swedish (bilingually English) and works at an IKEA, being a reliable home interior designer and assembly worker, though he tends to focus more on the form and physical use of arrangements rather than the aesthetics. It is an inside joke among his colleagues to pose him in a display room as if he were part of the furniture adorned there.
His favorite minerals are any with a high amount of silica content (like quartz), any with a high carbon content (like coal), and salt (often licked rather than eaten). He enjoys material with a more crunchy or gritty texture, especially if they have sharp or jagged edges. He usually keeps collections of more rare or less appetizing rocks, studying geology in his free time to categorize and sort them.
He tends to chat with Chester a lot, ecstatic about his omnilingualism, with him also serving as his Japanese language mentor. Xavier often borrows Damian's workshops for his own experiments. He tends to relate with Sauce and can comfort his doubt, and is always excited to meet Glass with her ideas.
Characteristics
Xavier is a shapeshifter, in which he is able to control how many legs or arms he has at any given moment, thereby making him longer at the back or taller at the front. The lengthening and contracting process is akin to unfolding or refolding limbs from or into the body, and cannot be halted during the folding transition (however may be immediately reversed after). While Xavier has full autonomy over his body shape, he also tends to shift in response to emotion (much like body language), usually growing more limbs when excited or threatened or shrinking down when embarrassed, however it isn't the driving force. The body itself is composed of a rocky material, forming a gritty white "fur" on the outside. Lacking any internal organs, the rocks he eat compose the majority of the body, which his body will automatically arrange into a gradien that is soft and pliable on the outside and denser on the inside. The mouth is the only way for new minerals to be assimilated into the mass, and any non-minerals must be spat out.
He is able to come into contact with and eat most rocks and minerals without any adverse effects, thereby also giving him supernatural bite force. Because of the composure of his body, he is also unable to feel pain, making anything which would damage his form feel nice or interesting. His tongue is able to stretch to as long as his body is total, with the surface being very rough and gritty like stone or sandpaper, however it remains squishy and bendable. He does not have full prehensile control over it.
Because his body is made of rock, using power tools allows one to reshape his body or remove and reattach limbs. While limbs go inert when removed and his body can easily be reset by shapeshifting, they can be reattached elsewhere by applying heat and can be used for other applications. He can be melted into molten rock at very high temperatures depending on his composition, which he sees as dizzyingly relaxing.
Water is an exception to the diet rule: he is able to "drink" water by allowing it to seep into his body, which can be done from any location, but is fastest through the mouth. He finds the feeling of drinking normally to be extremely uncomfortable, making his body compensate by pulling moisture from the surrounding air or absorbing any contacted water aggressively. The liquid itself is used for lubricating the body and for erosion and softening of the body. He is able to excrete the water from his eyes akin to crying, which is a learned behavior he uses exclusively when saddened.
His speech bubble is a simple connector. His handwriting is neat and rounded, with visual similarity to Futura. He frequents the use of emoticons.
Style guide
It's easiest to draw his torso as a pair of two cylinders: one vertical cylinder for the arms, and a horizontal one for the legs. The exact spacing between each leg doesn't matter heavily, however the arms will typically meet hand-to-shoulder.
His eyes must be drawn as fully black dots or smaller spheres as they are balls of obsidian; giving him larger eyes or a sclera would be incorrect, and the exact direction he is looking regardless of head position is meant to be ambiguous. You may however make them a little wider or smaller for effect. His "fur" itself is really more of an inconsistent, jagged crystal formation when looked at closely, and merely looks speckled or mildly jagged from afar; omitting details is easier, thus drawing him as smooth is entirely acceptable and preferred.
